Personalized medication management and collaborative care for adults living with bipolar disorder.
Bipolar disorder affects how your brain regulates mood, creating significant shifts between emotional highs and lows. These mood episodes can last days, weeks, or even months, impacting your energy, thinking, behavior, and ability to function in daily life. For most people with bipolar disorder, depressive episodes are typically more frequent than manic ones. Modern medication management, when properly tailored to your specific symptoms and needs, can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of mood episodes and improve your overall ability to function.
Effective bipolar disorder treatment centers on finding the right combination of medications to create a stable foundation. Unlike some medications that you might take as needed, bipolar medications work best when taken consistently to prevent mood episodes before they start. At Momentum Mental Health, we carefully monitor how your body responds to different treatments and adjust doses or combinations as needed. Your treatment plan evolves with you, and we regularly reassess what is working, what needs adjustment, and how your goals may have changed over time.
The goal is not just to manage symptoms when they appear, but to create a stable foundation that allows you to live your life with less worry about when the next episode might hit.
Whether you have a confirmed bipolar diagnosis or are experiencing unexplained mood swings that significantly impact your daily functioning, we start with a thorough assessment to understand your unique pattern before making any recommendations.
Many patients come to us already taking bipolar medications that are not working as well as they could. We specialize in medication reviews and adjustments, helping optimize your current regimen or transitioning to more effective treatments based on your individual response and goals.
Effective bipolar treatment requires regular medication adherence and follow-up appointments. We welcome adults committed to this process who want a provider that listens, adjusts, and treats them as an active participant in their care. We serve adults from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ individuals and underserved communities.
We start with a thorough evaluation of your mood patterns, current symptoms, medication history, and personal goals. This helps us understand your unique presentation of bipolar disorder and any factors that might influence treatment choices.
Based on your assessment, we develop a medication strategy tailored to your specific needs. We discuss different options, potential side effects, and realistic expectations so you can make informed decisions about your care. Initially, follow-up appointments are scheduled every 2 to 4 weeks. Once treatment is stable, appointments may extend to once every 3 months.
Mental health improvement is not always linear, so we schedule regular follow-ups to track your progress, address any concerns, and adjust your treatment as needed. When clinically appropriate, we may coordinate with your therapy team or other providers to ensure all aspects of your care work together.
You should consider bipolar treatment if you experience distinct periods of elevated mood alternating with depressive episodes that are more intense than normal ups and downs and significantly impact your daily functioning, relationships, or work performance.
